Available spots
Service Description
Whether you’re completely new to watercolour, coming back to it after some time away, or simply want a stronger foundation before moving into more complex paintings, this four-hour workshop is designed to help you feel more confident with your materials and understand how watercolour actually works. We’ll spend the day learning and practicing the foundational skills that make everything else easier. You’ll explore: • Essential watercolour techniques and brush control • Water-to-paint ratios and how to get the consistency you’re looking for • Colour mixing and creating clean, vibrant colour • Understanding values and building depth • Common watercolour challenges and why they happen • How to avoid muddy colour, blooms, hard edges and overworking • Tips and tricks I’ve learned through years of painting and teaching • Plenty of time to practice, ask questions and receive one-on-one help and feedback from me in real time This workshop is a great place to begin if you’ve always wanted to try watercolour without committing to a longer class. It’s also perfect if you already paint and would love a refresher or want to strengthen some of the fundamentals. And if you’re joining me for Natural Wonders Watercolours, this is an opportunity to build some extra confidence and familiarity with the techniques before we begin. Supplies: If you register by October 1, I’ll send you my recommended watercolour supply list in advance, including options if you’d like to invest in good-quality materials of your own. You don’t need to own everything already or know what to buy before registering. I’ll help you keep it simple. No previous watercolour experience is needed. Everyone who registers will also receive my free three-part Watercolour Foundations video course in early October, covering essential techniques, colour mixing and values, and how to bring it all together in a simple scene, so you can learn and review at your own pace from home. Saturday, October 17 | 10:00 am–2:00 pm $225 | Ocean Art Studio, Salt Spring Island Come spend four hours playing, learning, experimenting and building a foundation you can keep using long after the workshop is over.
