Service Description

This is a custom oil painting course designed for artists who want to deepen their understanding of colour mixing, temperature, and luminous colour in a focused and supported way. Available as a private course for one, a semi-private course for two, or a small group course for four this 3-part course blends shared learning with individualized guidance. The private and semi-private options includes 1:1 coaching, allowing time to work directly with your specific questions, palette, and areas of focus in your personal practice. The course is practical, spacious, and responsive rather than formula-based. We’ll work with the oil paints you already use, refining how you mix, adjust, and apply colour so it feels more intentional, confident, and alive on the canvas. Course Structure 3 sessions × 3 hours each Total: 9 hours Session One – Warm & Cool Foundations Exploring warm and cool relationships within colour families, creating a personal oil colour legend, and developing value without relying on black or white. We’ll look at natural ways to darken colour using temperature shifts, complements, and earth pigments. Session Two – Practical Colour Mixing Working with real-world colour challenges including natural greens, luminous sea greens and blues, turquoise mixes, pinks, and transparent versus opaque colour. We’ll also explore rich browns and chromatic blacks and how to keep mixtures clean and vibrant. Session Three – Skin, Neutrals & Integration Approaches to mixing skin tones across a range of complexions, creating neutrals that stay alive, and adjusting colour once it’s already on the canvas. This session allows time to integrate learning into your own work and address specific challenges you’re encountering.
